Over the past few decades, consumers have become more curious about their energy consumption and personal effects on climate change. When news stories started swirling regarding the possible negative effects of Bitcoin’s energy consumption, many became concerned about Bitcoin and criticized this energy usage. https://skywaypoland.com/ A report found that each Bitcoin transaction takes 1,173 KW hours of electricity, which can “power the typical American home for six weeks.” Another report calculates that the energy required by Bitcoin annually is more than the annual hourly energy usage of Finland, a country with a population of 5.5 million.
As compensation for spending their computational resources, the miners receive rewards for every block that they successfully add to the blockchain. At the moment of Bitcoin’s launch, the reward was 50 bitcoins per block: this number gets halved with every 210,000 new blocks mined — which takes the network roughly four years. As of 2020, the block reward has been halved three times and comprises 6.25 bitcoins.
The validity of each cryptocurrency’s coins is provided by a blockchain. A blockchain is a continuously growing list of records, called blocks, which are linked and secured using cryptography. Each block typically contains a hash pointer as a link to a previous block, a timestamp, and transaction data. By design, blockchains are inherently resistant to modification of the data. It is “an open, distributed ledger that can record transactions between two parties efficiently and in a verifiable and permanent way”. For use as a distributed ledger, a blockchain is typically managed by a peer-to-peer network collectively adhering to a protocol for validating new blocks. Once recorded, the data in any given block cannot be altered retroactively without the alteration of all subsequent blocks, which requires collusion of the network majority.

In December 2013, the People’s Bank of China prohibited Chinese financial institutions from using bitcoin. After the announcement, the value of bitcoin dropped, and Baidu no longer accepted bitcoins for certain services. Buying real-world goods with any virtual currency had been illegal in China since at least 2009.
Eigenlijk heel simpel.

Cryptoassets are digital assets stored on a blockchain. Cryptoasset transactions are encrypted using cryptography and serve as a potential alternative to government-backed fiat currencies. Traditionally, cryptoassets are considered to be decentralised, meaning they are controlled by a network of users, rather than a single point of authority.
As we touched on before, each blockchain has its own DeFi infrastructure, though many platforms opt to deploy on multiple different blockchains. For this reason, the DeFi landscape is somewhat of a rabbit hole, and it can be difficult to stay on top of every new development and innovation.

Broadly, exchanges can be divided into two main types: centralized (CEX) or decentralized (DEX). Centralized exchanges are generally faster, cheaper to use and easier to access, but come at the cost of privacy and custody of your assets. Decentralized exchanges typically feature better asset selection and allow you to retain full control of your assets at all times, but are usually more difficult to use and expensive.
